Here is one of Australias origonal supercars, the S4 EH, there was 127 of these built and called test vehicles so they could be raced at Bathurst, the ARDC origonally banned them but later relented, the best finishing one was 2nd due to mechanical failures of wheels and brakes. |

This is as far south as you can drive a car on the mainland, to reach south point it is a 15 klm walk each way, we decided this was close enough. |

We had a long weekend so we went for a drive to Phillip Island for a look around, we took our tent and thought we would camp out for the first time in a very long time, well the weekend that we picked happened to have the 3rd largest bike meeting of the year on and the island was all but booked out. We tried a couple of van parks but no luck we then found one that could fit us in and it was only $72 for a unpowered site, so we quickly left and stayed at a motel for not much more, so much for camping. As for the island it was quite interesting as it was so busy we didn't do the penguin thing but we have seen penguins before. The coast line of the island is very rugged and some of the pics of the waves breaking on the coast are huge and it was a very calm day. There is also a chocolate factory on the island which I was told if I didn't go there my life would not be worth living, is was good they had the 1 tonne block a miniature village completely made of chocolate plus the history and how its made ect. The next place was called puzzle world and its got one of the biggest mazes in Australia plus many more distorted activities. Then we went to the race circuit and had a look at the track which still had a few bikes racing around, then we done the circuit museum tour which was also very interesting. A good insight into the track history and the origin of what we now know as the Bathurst 1000, they have a collection of cars and bikes including the commodore that Craig Lowndes rolled several times, after it was rebuilt it was used as a promotional car until the year before last. The next day we came home via Wilsons Promontory the most southern part of the Australian mainland. We done one of the shorter walks to the top of Mt Oberon one of the highest points on the Promontory that you can walk to and what a view. As I said above, the walk to south point was 15 klms each way and usually involved a over night stay, so viewing it from the top of a mountain will have to do. All in all it was a good weekend and I think we have now just about seen most things this side of the high country that we wanted to see. All going well we will be doing a trip around the high country over Easter. After that it will be time to finish here and move over to the other side of Victoria and explore it. Cant wait to come home for a week in May so until then CYAS Wayne & Bev
