Donofrio :- (Friday, February 12, 2010 1:52:29 PM)
I am almost ready to go! Just a few more things from the store and I will be packing for my exciting trip to see the Monarchs in Mexico :P I hope I am able to do this while I am gone ;)

Donofrio :- (Sunday, February 14, 2010 9:41:41 PM)
Well, I did not get to post anything else yesterday because we had a very busy day. We got to Mexico City and immediately went to the Anthropology Museum. It was fabulous and I took lots of pictures. Then we ate dinner and went right to sleep. It was a long day! I learned two things today, the drivers in Mexico City are crazy and everything is very colorful here, the people, the open air shops, and even the buildings and their roofs. Flowers are blooming all over and everything is so green! I love it!

Today we went to an amazing Religious site where thousands of people were worshipping and all kinds of parades and music were going on. I also took lots of photos of this that I will share later when I figure out how to post them.

Then we went to a small village where we got to go to an open air market and shop. On the way to our hotel we stopped at a huge cactus site. It was really cool and interesting.

One other really cool thing we have seen are volcanoes. I first saw them from the airplane and we have continued to see them everywhere we drive. Normally they do not see them at all because of the pollution, but because of the torrential rains last week, the air is much cleaner.

For the next two nights we are staying at a hacienda in the middle of nowhere. It is amazing! This is definitely how the other half lives.

Tomorrow we finally get to go to the butterfly sanctuaries and I cannot wait!
More later....

Donofrio :- (Monday, February 15, 2010 9:16:50 PM)
;) What a day! We went to the butterfly sanctuary where the monarchs spend the winter. It is a long walk and we had a choice of going by horseback or walking and I chose to walk down to the santuary and ride a horse back up on the return. The trip was breath taking, with lots of beautiful scenery (except when we got a bit too close to the edge and I thought I would fall off the mountain). Before we got to where the butterflies were up in the trees, occasional monarchs would appear flying around, it helped to build the anticipation :P We had to be careful where we walked because many of them were on the ground too. We were very lucky because it was a very sunny day, and the monarchs like the sun. All of a sudden they were flying all around us and we could see them in the trees. Every once in a while a whole bunch would start flying all over, it was absolutely amazing! I tried to get movies as well as many pictures, so we will see when I get back!
Afterward I got to ride a horse back and that was lots of fun! We then got to eat traditional Mexican food outside, which was a very interesting experience.
On our trip home, the skies opened up and we have been having a crazy thunderstoem (this is the dry season). The damage from the rains last week is unbelievable, it will take them a long time to get things back to normal.
Anyway, the place we are staying at is over the top and the food is absolutely delicious!
More tomorrow....

Donofrio :- (Wednesday, February 17, 2010 6:45:53 PM)
Sorry I have not written since yesterday morning, but we have been busy! Yesterday we went to a mine that was really interesting. There is so much history here that I cannot wait to share with all of you! I have taken many, many pictures!
Today it has rained all day :`( Even so we have been on the move. We went to a really old church that was amazingly beautiful, filled with flowers and a wonderful smell. Then we went to some pyramids that were built a long, long time ago. After that we went on a boat ride to an island that has a whole city on it. The streets were very windy and treacherous in the rain. There were many little shops and not an inch of the island has not been built on. Right now we are in a beautiful village where we are shopping and will eat dinner.
Tomorrow we go to a school and I cannot wait to share all of you books with the children! I will be at a place with a computer tomorrow night, so I hope i will be able to write. If not, I will try again on Friday.
I am having a fantastic time and cannot wait to share all I have learned with everyone.
Talk to you soon!

Sarah Jane :- (Thursday, February 18, 2010 10:36:36 AM)
So happy you're getting this experience! Everyone I tell has been really excited for you and probably pretty jealous that we're stuck in the frozen tundras of Jersey. It snowed AGAIN last night, if you can believe that. Dad and I have been enjoying some good food too -- ordered Chinese last night for dinner, haha! Love you very much and so glad that you're having an enriching time.

Donofrio :- (Friday, February 19, 2010 8:38:53 AM)
OK, this will be short and sweet as I was cut off in the middle of an entry! We went to the school yesterday and had an amazing experience with the kids. Their school is very different from ours, I will tell you all about it when I get home.
Today is our last day :`( We are back in Mexico City and will be going to the pyramids. Wish me luck as I try to climb 260 steps to the top!Cannot wait to get home and share all my pictures and stories with everyone. The week went way too fast!

Donofrio :- (Saturday, February 20, 2010 5:46:40 PM)
OK, I'm home! I had a wonderful trip and can't wait to share all I learned and experienced with everyone I know! The postcards are in the suitcase, so they won't be postmarked from Mexico, but they will be sent out.
If you ever can, travel to Mexico. Not to the touristy areas, but to the historic areas. It's an amazing country and I have a profound respect for all the indigenous people who live there.
Sorry I couldn't post more as I traveled, but access to computers was very difficult.
I think yesterday was my favorite day. It was sunny and warm (we had lots of rain and cold) and we all walked up 260 steps to the top of the pyramids! I can't wait to see the pictures. To think that these pyramids were built before Christ was born is just mind boggling!
See everyone soon! :P
